The pool filter is an essential item if you own or maintain a pool. This article is designed to explain the different types of filters so that you can make a more educated decision on which pool filter is right for you.

There are three main types of pool filters available. The first is called a D.E. which stands for Diatomaceous Earth. The second pool filter is a sand filter and the third is a cartridge filter. These filters come in different sizes and most experts suggest buying the next size large than you think you need. The reason for this is that a larger filter cleans a pool very effectively, but if you buy it too small, you will never get a clean pool. Size really does matter in a pool, for example, a large cartridge filter would be better than a small D.E. filter even though D.E. filters are usually better. So remember that filter size is more important than brand name, or even filter type as filters follow the same phrasing which is, “The bigger the better!”

Each filter is designed to capture particles that fit within the 20 to 100 micron range. This helps to ensure that your pool water is clean and free of particles. If these particles are not taken out of the water, the pool can become damaged over time as these particles react to the materials in the swimming pool casing. Particles can also damage swimming pool pumps if not maintained regularly.

These filters also provide safety for people that use the pool by adding chlorine and keeping harmful particles out of the pool water. It is important however to monitor chlorine levels to make sure it is safe for swimmers and pets. If the levels are not monitored you can end up with harmful water that can be damaging if swallowed and can give your skin a rash. Most swimming pool filters have chlorine monitoring and make chlorinating your pool easy.

How much will pool filters cost you? Most pool filters sell from $250 to $500 dollars and can even reach $1000 dollars if you get a cleaning system built in with your filter. Instead of paying a pool maintenance crew, you can do it all yourself by purchasing one of these types of filters. Even though the price may seem large at the moment, just think of how much money you will save over the years by not having to pay a maintenance company to come out and work on the pool.

Lawn aerators are designed to remove plugs of sod and dirt from the surface of a yard, in order to create a healthier lawn. Over time, soil becomes compressed, which can make it difficult for water, air and other nutrients to reach the roots of the grass. As a result, the lawn could start showing signs of stress, which could cause it to grow poorly or even start to die off in spots.

After using a lawn aerator, the small holes that are produced in the yard surface allow the soil to shift around and loosen, which can improve the level of nutrients that reach the grass. Removing these plugs also has the added benefit of stimulating root growth in the grass, resulting in a more lush lawn. The soil should be slightly moist before aerating, as soil that is too wet or too dry will not produce optimal results. You should also not reseed your lawn soon after aeration, as this can cause patchy results, as the grass seeds tend to fall into the plug holes. The season is also important, as warm season grass benefits from summer aeration, while cool season grass benefits from fall aeration. To test your lawn to see if aeration is needed, try sticking a screw driver through the sod on a day when the soil is moist. If you are not able to easily do this, chances are the lawn could benefit from aeration.

Lawn aerators come in both power and manual models. Manual lawn aerators are an inexpensive choice for small areas, but they can be quite labor intensive to use, and would not be a good choice for anything other than a small section of lawn. These tools are designed with hollow cylinders or spikes, which are plunged into the soil by stepping on the aerator with your foot, either extracting cores or simply creating holes in the lawn. Some people also try using lawn aerator sandals, which are designed to be worn on the feet, providing minor aeration for the lawn as the person walks around the yard.

A more efficient choice is the power lawn aerator. These tools can be rented at home centers or tool rental stores, and are generally available in both coring models, designed to remove plugs of soil, as well as spiking models, which simply punch holes in the soil. Coring models are definitely preferred, because removing the core of soil is important in order to stimulate the grass root system. Power lawn aerators are generally large and can sometimes be a bit difficult to handle, so always use care when operating one.

Having a spa in your home can be a fantastic way of relaxing at the end of the day no matter what the weather is like outside. However having a home spa takes more planning than an outdoors one because you’re much more limited by space. While there are lots of similarities between buying a home spa and an outdoors one there are some differences too and that’s what we’ll be concentrating on in this article.

The most obvious different is that fact that the size and shape of your home spa is likely to be decided by the existing layout of the room. Depending on the size of your house this may mean you don’t have the space for a larger spa. If you just want a place to relax at night then this probably won’t be a problem, but if you want to buy a spa for entertaining guests then an outdoor spa may be more suitable for the job.

Choosing the right style to match your existing interior decor is also much more important with a home spa. You want your spa to blend in with the rest of the rooms design and seem like it’s part of the house rather than just something that’s been added at a later date. There are plenty of different styles and shapes of home spas so you shouldn’t have a problem finding one that’s right for you if you’re willing to spend the time to find one.

Optional extras can also be included in a spa design for more luxury if your budget allows it. For example if you enjoy watching television then some spas can come with a TV installed within them making them the perfect place to watch your favorite shows. Stereos can also be built into spas although these are more common in tubs used for entertaining.

Having a home spa has the advantage of being inside and hence you can use it no matter what the weather. However the downside is you’re much more limited in the type and size you can get. Make sure you weight up the different advantages and benefits of choosing a home spa before you make your final decision as you don’t want to make an expensive mistake. Also make sure you set a strict budget before you start looking to ensure you don’t overspend. It can be very easy to add expensive extr5axs onto a spa but if you know your budget you’ll be less tempted.

Cast aluminum patio furniture is definitely an option to be considered when buying outdoor furniture for your patio or lawn. While it isn’t as ornate as wrought iron furniture it can still add a lot to the design and style of a patio. Here are just a few advantages of buying cast aluminum furniture for your patio.

As a metal cast aluminum is surprisingly light for something so strong. cast aluminum is also very resistant to corrosion from the elements. This means that not only will the patio furniture you buy last a long time but it’s also easy to move around the patio. The downside to this is that in strong winds the furniture may be blown over.

Cast aluminum is a very common metal even though it has many useful properties. Because of this, you can often find cast aluminum patio furniture for cheaper prices than materials such as teak.

If you like the look of cast-iron furniture you can get cast aluminum that’s been coated to mimic this style.

Cast aluminum is generally quite low maintenance compared to other kinds of materials. While you’ll have to give the occasional clean, apart from that there is very little that it needs.

Once you’ve decided you want to buy cast aluminum patio furniture you then need to start thinking about which set you’re going to buy. First of all you should decide on a strict budget so you know how much have available to spend and which pieces of furniture aren’t realistic for your price range. There is a huge amount of different types of cast aluminum furniture for your patio so unless you have some way of narrowing down the options you could spend days looking for the right kind for you.

One of the best things about cast aluminum patio furniture is that because it’s quite cheap you’ll be able to buy a much wider range of sets and styles than you would if you’re going for more expensive materials such as cedar. However, you need to make sure that the cast aluminum you buy is suitable for being used outdoors.

When choosing any piece of patio furniture you need to make sure that the style matches up to the existing style of your patio. cast aluminum usually looks best in more contemporary patios but is a very versatile material when it comes to style. Try and make sure all of furniture in your patio follows the same style for consistency.

Hydroponic gardening has become all the rage, partially because in many cities, space is at a premium and it is all but impossible to grow a decent tomato indoors using traditional gardening methods. The term hydroponics comes from the combination of the Greek words meaning “water” and “labor” and the concept of gardening without soil has been since ancient times.

Whether you choose to buy a system or build your own, hydroponic systems are referred to, first, as either passive or active, with the active version requiring mechanical assistance in the form of a pump. The next category is recovery or non-recovery, meaning that in a recovery system, the water is recycled and kept moving. An active recovery system is considered to offer the optimum growth potential for plants, as it can be set to flood and drain the plant roots at precise intervals, giving the roots a good supply of oxygen so that they may intake nutrients at a high level.

Each hydroponic system requires a growing medium and there are several to choose from. Hydroton is derived from clay and provides a lightweight and reusable medium that can be sterilized when switching between types of plants being grown. Hydroton comes in a pellet form, which allows for good drainage and free circulation of oxygen. Horticultural Rockwool is another popular option. It comes in cubes that hold more water, but Rockwool is not reusable and it tends to raise the ph factor of nutrients used in the system. Expanded shale is a good medium, but it does break down over time and must be replaced. Cheaper substances such as sand, vermiculite and perlite will work, but they tend to hold too much water and can cause the plants to rot.

The advantages of growing fruit and vegetables with a hydroponic gardening system are many. The foods produced are more nutritious because, unlike with soil-based gardens, the amount of essential nutrients such as phosphorus, nitrogen and potassium can be controlled, monitored and added as needed through the water system. Hydroponic produce tends to have better color, size and consistency than traditional garden produce and there is no need for insecticides, reducing the risk of passing along such additives to those who consume the fruits (or vegetables) of your labor.

Before launching into building your own hydroponic gardening system, try buying an inexpensive small version first. That way you can do a little experimenting before you spend a lot of time and money building your own.

In the UK and many other countries around the world one of the most popular backyard games is cricket. Whilst the real game isn’t that popular in most of Europe and America the backyard version can still be a lot of fun and isn’t anywhere near as complicated to learn.

The three objects you’ll need are a cricket bat, ball (a tennis ball will do fine) and something to serve as a wicket. Whilst it’s definitely better to have a set of proper cricket stumps anything that is rectangular and not too big will do such as a cardboard box.

The general idea of the game is that the bowler must get the batsman out and the batsman must get as many “runs” as possible. A run is scored whenever the batman hits the ball and has time to run to the bowler’s end of the garden. He or she should do this as many times as they can before the fielders get the ball back to the bowler. However if the fielders get the ball back to the bowler or hits the stumps with the ball whilst the batsman is still running then the batsman is “run out”.

Other ways of getting the batsman out include the bowler hitting the stumps directly when bowling or the ball being caught without bouncing from a batsman shot.

Once you’ve got the basics sorted it’s time to add a few more rules to make the game more exciting! These rules aren’t in the real version of cricket but can make the backyard version faster paced and hence more interesting to play. However they aren’t for the purists!

One hand one bounce rule – this rule means that the batsman can still be “caught out” if the ball has bounced once as long as the fielder catches it with one hand.

Hit and run rule – with this rule the batsman must run whenever he or she hits the ball. This changes the game dramatically as the batsman must go for shots every ball rather than just defending otherwise he risks being run out.

Artificial fielder rule – if you don’t have enough fielders then designate a few objects that can do the job. If the ball hits these objects without bouncing then the batsman is out.

Over the fence rule – if the batsman hits the ball over the fence of the yard he is out – no excuses!

The next time you are trying to come up with something new for a fun backyard game to play, give cricket a try.

What better way to still enjoy your patio during the cold months than by investing in a patio haeater? Patio heaters offer consumers the ability to heat their outdoor areas and spend more valuable time out in Mother Nature. There have been many technological improvements in patio heaters in the last few years. For instance propane and gas heaters used to be the standard. The plus to having a gas heater is that it makes it a lot more portable which is good if you are using your patio heater for more than just your patio. In that case it is no longer a patio heater but more of an all purpose outdoor heater.

If you are looking for a more efficient way to heat your patio then you should look elsewhere. Old propane fueled patio heaters are now being replaced by more efficient and more modern electric patio heaters. This is because electric patio heaters offer so many more features and benefits than the old gas ones do. And the fact that your home is so close to your patio (if you can believe it) makes it all the better choice.

As far as installation goes, electric heaters need a lot less clearance to mount than a gas heater. Many homes have low balconies and can’t have gas heaters installed very safely. Because electric heaters run on electricity rather than gas, they can direct heat flow to heat only the disired area whereas gas heaters radiate wherever they are burning. The electric patio heater also adds a modern, sleek, and stylish look to your patio which helps when you are trying to improve the decor of your patio.

Other advantages are as follows:

Focuses Heat Emission. Electric heaters work using a radiation principle which helps you focus heat flow. It helps you warm the areas that you want to be warm.

No Fuel Burned. Don’t burn any type of gas or any other type of fuel. You minimize pollution and preserve air quality and safety. Gas leakage can lead to all types of accidents if not carefully monitored.

Utilizes Energy. Because of the focused heat abiliity, heat loss is at a minimum and therefore energy is preserved. You are able to consume most of the heat that you end up generating.

Conserve Space. They are much more compact than their gas counterparts and can be mounted to walls and ceilings. This makes a lot of difference if you can’t afford the huge patio that your neighbor has.

There are many other features and benefits of patio heaters, but hopefully these few have been informative and can help you make a decision on how to heat your patio.

If you’re lucky enough to have a swimming pool then making sure you have the right pool fence is vitally important. In fact, in some cases having a pool fence isn’t just sensible but is also required by law. There are several things that you must take into consideration when buying a fence for your pool though and that’s what we’ll be talking about in this article.

First of all, you need to make sure you get a pool fence that not only protects your pool but also allows you to see what’s going on inside it. The main purpose of getting a pool fence is to stop young children accidentally falling or running into the pool, so the fence doesn’t have to be that high but just big enough to stop determined children.

You also need to make sure that your pool fence can’t be climbed. This is one of the reasons why buying a chain link fence probably isn’t a good idea to use for your pool because it’s too easy to climb. A chain link fence often doesn’t look that is aesthetically pleasing either.

Some of the most common materials used to build pool fences are vinyl and metal. As long as you make sure that the pool is as safe as possible and can be viewed from your house then it doesn’t matter too much which material you buy apart from making sure it looks as good as possible.

Aside from making your pool look good you need to think about the cost of the fence. The total price of the fence depends on how big your pool is, how high you want it to be and which material you use. For this reason if you’re on a small budget when it comes to accessories for your pool then you may be limited as to which material you can buy.

If you aren’t particularly DIY minded then it’s important to make sure that you buy a fence that comes with installation included in the price. Usually installing pool fences isn’t difficult but you do need to make sure that it’s done correctly.

When buying fences for pools the most important thing is to use common sense. The height that you’ll need as well as the material you require will depend on many factors such as the age of your children and the layout of your garden. If you’re in any doubt about which fence you need then contact a professional for advice.

Trees and shrubs are really the main backbone of landscaping. With this in mind, front yard landscaping should always be decorative but at the same time be functional and easy to get around. The front yard should always be kept neat and in a very tasteful way.

When first starting your lawn landscaping project, review the size of the house. After the house is reviewed, pick plants that go with the house size. Lilliputian plants are beautiful when they are in homes such as a big grand colonial house.

There will always be some maintenance that might be needed. This should be taken into consideration before deciding on what kind of landscaping should be done. Hedges that are shaped need clipping maintenance done every couple of weeks. Each plant is different on what kind of maintenance they need.

Trees and shrubs should only give out a view that is pleasing to the eye. They can be used to block unwanted scenes such as the neighbor’s yard that might not look so nice. They can also be used for celebrations, and formal events. The ideas really are endless as to what all they can be used for and that is why they should always give out a fantastic view to anyone that comes around.

The foundation of a home should be dulled with edges that are harsh and have flowing curves that look natural. For privacy, the most popular plants used are mixed plants. Whenever a specimen does not last and die it can be easily replaced and not look as if a gab was created.

Natural fragrance and color splashed around the front yard can give out a very welcoming feeling to family and friends. Hyacinths help to balance the fragrance and placed in front of the door so people walking to the door can enjoy the smell.

During the summer most people enjoy the trees that are planted in the front yard because it can help to reduce whatever effects might come from the wind and even the weather. Homeowners often find that windbreaks help a lot with this while the ones that dwell in suburbs might plant evergreens and those can reduce the amount of the winds that might prevail during bad weather. Another known tree used to help block the heat from summer is called the deciduous tree. During the winter this tree can also help because the sun shines straight through the branches that are bare keeping people warm that are outside in the cold.

Oftentimes, the hardest part about owning spas and hot tubs is dealing with all the hot tub chemicals that are required for a hot tub to be well maintained and keep its the water clean. It can be a bit overwhelming at times, but you do not need a degree in chemistry to figure it all out. This article will act as a guide to help clarify what you should do and the things you need in order to enjoy your hot tub in a healthy and safe manner.

Sanitizers

The most important step in maintaining a hot tub is sanitizing the water. Sanitizers kill bacteria that grow in the breeding ground of warm water. There are different types of sanitizers, so read the following carefully in order to make an informed decision on which type will suit your needs the best.

Chlorine is probably the most familiar to you as it is the primary chemical used to sanitize pools. It can be used for hot tubs, but in different concentrations. There are specific chlorine granules and tablets designed specifically for hot tubs.

Another hot tub chemical that can be added in the form of nuggets, tablets, or granules is Bromine. A form of bromine, sodium bromide, needs activating with an oxidizer like chlorine to work. It can also work with a non-chlorine shock like potassium monopersulfate. BCDMH is another bromine product that is self-activating because it is a combination of chlorine bromine. Many hot tub owners choose bromine instead of chlorine because it is effective as a sanitizer, it does not “gas off” at temperatures over 98 degrees, produces fewer odors than chlorine, and works in a wider range of PH levels. Bromine is usually dispersed through a cartridge arrangement or floating feeder.

Biguanide sanitizers are another form of non-chlorine hot tub chemicals. Biguanide is also non-bromine and it eliminates bacteria by destroying the cell wall. This allows the water to remain clear by burning off the organic matter. Again, Biguanide does not “gas off” at high temperatures and produces fewer odors than chlorine or even bromine.

It is important to note that before adding any sanitizer to your hot tub that you must first test the levels of hot tub chemicals by using a test strip. These strips are formulated to measure the amounts of chlorine, bromine, or Biguanide in the water as well as pH and calcium levels in the hot tub water. Depending on the sanitizer you use, add sanitizing agents as directed by the test strip as well as by the instructions on your chosen sanitizer.

Cleaning The Hot Tub

The cleaning of your hot tub will involve several steps that should be undergone at different times. The following information is provided for the benefit of hot tubs everywhere. Please read all manufacturer instructions before proceeding with the following steps.

Change the Water

It is imperative that you change your water every sixty to ninety days, depending on how much your hot tub is used. No amount of sanitizing agents or hot tub chemicals can protect you against dirty, old water. Changing the water is a simple, yet essential task that will keep your friends and family healthy while using your hot tub.

Clean the Filter

It is essential that you keep your hot tub filter clean and this task should be performed on a monthly basis. Use a filter cleaner designed specifically for hot tub filters. You should be able to clean your filter a few times before it needs replacing, so utilize the filter cleaner to save money.

Preventing the Scum Ring

Changing your water regularly and properly sanitizing your hot tub is the first line of defense in preventing scum ring. There are also scum prevention products available the can help prevent the build-up of greases and oils that remain on the surface of the water. If you are reading this because it is too late and you already have a ring of scum, and then use a mutli-purpose spa cleaner and a non-abrasive cleaning pad to scrub your tub.

Cleaning the Cover

Your hot tub cover is important for protecting your hot tub from the elements, both indoor and outdoor. Once a month you should use a product that is designed specifically for cover care. The best product will provide UV protection and is good for cleaning as well as conditioning your cover.

Other Hot Tub Chemicals – Shocks

Shocks are important hot tub chemicals, just slightly less important than sanitizers are. Shocks are useful maintenance products that help to maintain sanitizer efficiency. However, it should be noted that they cannot be used with Biguanide systems, as these systems do not require shocking because they eliminate organic material by using a hydrogen peroxide oxidizer.

As you can see, keeping your hot tub clean and healthy requires the use of many different hot tub chemicals from sanitizers to shocks to filter cleaners, but if maintained properly, your hot tub will remain a source of pleasure for many years. Be sure to review all instructions before using any chemicals.
